Hi zmonkeyr,
What game are you playing when this happens. I am trying to run SkyDrift and I get the same problem.
I've requested a refund.
SkyDrift needs a graphic card with at least DirectX 9.0c and Shader Model 3.0 support. Pixel Shading is a method used for rendering advanced graphical features such as bump mapping and shadows. Most modern PC games utilize pixel shaders in conjunction with advanced GPUs (Graphics Processing Units) found on most Nvidia, ATI cards. Certain Intel video cards have a limitation in design that may result in issues when trying to run these kind of games.
It is extremely important to check each game's system requirements before deciding on making a purchase. If you are not sure what Pixel Shader level your video card can support, there is a chance that your video card will not be capable of running a game that requires an advanced Pixel Shader model - even if your card meets the minimum DirectX requirements.
Maybe you can try to transfer the game to another computer which have the proper requirements. Here’s some help: http://forums.steampowered.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1055154
Couple weeks ago there was a guy with the same problem, he wrote that: "I was rooting around in the nVidia control panel and found an option to force everything to go through the nvidia card instead of auto selecting. SkyDrift is working now."
