Imperium Galactic III when?

Link to this post 30 Oct 11

I'm a fan of Imperium Galactica II which I still play and also an RTS fan.
And from the hundreds of RTS I have played none equals the quality of the imperium galactic II NONE! I never ever tried even on a recent RTS a game with a decent AI has IG II nor with such a complex diplomacy or that even came close to what IG II had!

This is a list of a few of the IG II features:

Design your own units with technologies you research(Spaceships and Ground forces)
Diplomacy (one of the best and with most potential I ever seen)
Amazing tutorial!(every player that did the tutorial knew how to play the game)
Intelligence(spying the best I ever seen loved the RPG feel and the racial bonus)
City Building Simulator ( Amazing to expand a city and then fighting on the same city you built but building were not scaled and you see no movement from your citizens)
Space battle simulator
Ground battle simulator
Very large technology tree
Decent AI
RPG features like ingame quests with unique rewards
-Dinamic missions which meant every game would not be equal
Trading system (Simply amazing if you had credits you could mass a large army with state of the art or obsolete equipment from other empires selling units)
Good number of units on screen(considering this was a 2000 game)
Amazing space theme songs
Amazing cutscenes
3 Campaign scenarios each with different missions, story and cutscenes
One resource based game (credits this is the best and allow a better gameplay than huge number of types of resources)
And so on...

After IG II RTS market seems to be stuck on the dark ages none RTS has ever had the amount of features IG II had, there is currently none space RTS has deep but yet simple on the surface has IG II

I request for an IG III with this following features adding to all the ones the IG II had:

- Infantry brigade units hundreds or thousands of them on screen(Blitzkrieg or Rometotalwar style)
- A slightly deeper city simulator with the ability to see citizens and maybe click on them (sim city 4 style)
- Increase the number of dynamic quests
- Asteroid mining and base/outpost construction
- Increase the number of fighters on screen
- Replay battle option
- Addition of commanders both military, research, production and economy that would boost fleets and colonies but could also be kidnapped or killed
- Experience for both ships and ground units
- Ability to set a ship has a flagship
- Price 25-40 euros
- Demo tutorial

With all of these this game would sell millions of copies not joking! There is a very huge market for RTS but there is a huge void for Space RTS and there is still a large number of IG II fans out there. If this IG III ever comes out don't dumb it down like civilizations did IG II had already achieved the perfect formula with a tutorial that covers all features and a easy interface that was based on text instead of icons.

IG III = IG II ( 100%) + Space Empires V and Galactic Civilizations II (20%)+ Star wars Rebellion/supremacy (30%) + Sim city 4 (40%) + Blitzkrieg(30%) + Nexus Jupiter incident ( visual graphic space battles)

Many thanks your inquiry and ideas! It is always a huge pleasure for us to hear about the fans. Imperium Galactica also one of our favorite too, and who knows the future, maybe someday Digital Reality will produce another space RTS game. :)

I just registered cause I wanted to reply on this topic:

Im also a very big fan of Imperium Galactica 2, and all the time since 1998 Im looking for a strategy game that is like that. I was very happy when I've heard that IG3 was under developement, but then I was very sad when dev was canceled and only Nexus came out (which I bought and also very much liked, but its just not the same). The only game after that which was also quite nice where X2 and X3, but both are not that overwhelming and big as IG2.

If you would make a real, new IG3 with the fight-system and graphics of Nexus, that would be great. I dont want new Features, I only want IG 2 with Nexus graphics and maybe some new Techs / Ships. Everything else could please stay.

Maybe you shouldn't wait for a Publisher to see that this would be a great Idea: You could raise the money through crowdfunding? I would pay that 150 € for that immediately. How much would the developement of IG3 cost?

On a lot of internet pages people write that they would totally throw their money on you if you would dev another IG...

Best Regards,
Firstdeathmaker

The rights to the Imperium Galactica series is I believe are in the hands of HD Publishing or Atari and not Digital Reality. I have to look things up a bit, but here is the thing I remember:
Imperium Galactica 3 was NOT developed by Digital Reality, DR was busy back then with Haegemonia (which is also a very awesome space RTS), another Hungarian studio has acquired the rights to make IG3 from Infogrames, the studio Philos Laboraties (makers of a very good, but underscored RTS, Theocracy and Rebels: Prison Escape). Philos Laboratories developed Imperium Galactica 3, but during development, the studio went bankrupt. Later, former employees of Philos Laboratories formed the studio: Mithis Entertainment and continued the development of Imperium Galactica 3, where they left off at Philos. Unfortunately later they had some legal issues, so they renamed Imperium Galactica 3 to Nexus: The Jupiter Incident and Imperium Galactica 3 was released under the name "Nexus" (which atm has 75% discount on Steam btw) with HD Publishing.

Later Mithis Games, the former Philos Studios, who finished IG3/Nexus has been buyed up by Eidos and renamed Eidos Hungary. The veterans of Mithis (and Pihlos) had left Mithis before the Eidos buy up and formed a new team: Most Wanted Entertainment. Seems when they left, they took the rights to Nexus too, so currently, MWE is raising money on http://www.games-plant.com/ to make Nexus 2.

Long story short, if Digital Reality wants to make another Imperium Galactica game, their legal department needs to check that who has the rights. Currently the rights are either at:
- HD Publishing
- Most Wanted Entertainment
- the legal successor of Infogrames (who I believe is Atari)
- or the rights has fallen back to Digital Reality with the closing of Philos Laboratories
- or the French publisher (Anuman Interactive) who released it on GOG.com
- or someone I am forgetting

Personally, I would like to see a new Haegemonia or Imperium Galactica from Digital Reality, but we need to be honest, they are just getting back up and in my opinion even if they wanted to make a new one, they don't have a resources to do it. They could make an awesome demo and present it at E3 hoping that a big publisher would pick up the game, but that would still be a risky gamble. Hopefully one day they will have the resources and the enthusiasm to make a new, awesome space RTS as Imperium Galactica 2 with new generation graphics. Currently most gamers buy popular FPS games like BF and COD, but there is still a piece in the RTS cake to take for well made RTS games, a good example is Bioware, who is currently developing Generals 2. Imperium Galactica 3 (or 4 since Nexus had the title IG3:D) could be a big hit too if it was detailed at least as Imperium Galactica 2.

btw, on a side note, why don't you rerelease Imperium Galactica 2? A lot of companies release nowadays their old big titles with upgraded graphics and gameplay, you could upgrade the graphics of Imperium Galactica 2, clean up some bugs, digitally clear and enhance the videos to 1080p, tweak the gamepelay a little (got some ideas for that) and of course make it Windows 7 compatyble? You already got most of the material and I don't think it would cost much more to upgrade it than to make Skydrift or Sine Mora. You could release it on Steam with Steam achievements (got some ideas for Achievements too). Singler player alone would be awesome, but even more awesome if you add some new modes to multiplayer. There are still fans out there who play multiplayer, it would be a huge help for them if the game would be available on Steam with better netcode that doesn't give huge lags during games.

In other words, personally I would be happy for a long time with Imperium Galactica 2 "HD" too.

I didn't really like Haegemonia at all XD, your space fleet was so god DAMN limited, Not ground Units!, no building cities on planets, technology research was arcade and limited to the missions.
The story was ok but it was a big turn down the fact they were split in missions on IG 2 it was a single game(like total war series) this was so awesome and gave a personal and unique feeling.

I would be happy with IG 2 HD too would prefer this over Haegemonia 2. ( I would buy it too as long it does not reach 50 euros)
(Great idea DRevan!! it could actually help fund and also study how big the market still is and how many fans are still out there)

Btw one of the main problems with RTS this days is that sometimes they offer alot of units under your command but they have no AI and they are dumb requiring you to constantly giving you orders, this makes players enjoy less of the game since they see less combat, effects and are forced to keep checking their units locations. This could be simply correct with attack and move Blitzkrieg style or additionally defend and move they would hold their ground and retreat to a safe position if counter with enemy fire while moving to target.

Out of all the RTS games i have played, imperium galactica 2 was my favorite. When this game hit the shelves i bought it right away and was amazed by the graphics and gameplay. This game was ahead of its time when it came out, and even after 10 years i am still playing this game. I cant wait to get my hands on imperium galactica 3.
\

Everything about this game is great. i even love how i can zoom in on planets on the map view and watch their orbits. same with zooming in on space battles. The tutorial was a plus as well. I also liked how you can create your own shit designs. Although the ships and tanks were generic in shape and detail, for the time i have to say it was badass. I just hope that the imperium galactica 3 will have cooler looking ships, tanks and weapons.

Suggestions:

More scientificpedia for the weapons, sheilds, buildings ect. (makes the game more realistic when the technology is explained)

A great feature for this type of game would be a way to create your own unique ship body.

planet mining: should have planets or moons that have raw materials for mining. they would have a mining option rather than a colonize option. maybe even a research planet option.

Hallo,

Nintendo,PS2,WII.

Über Imperium Galactica wird heute noch geredet.......

Gruß

translation of Godan72's post using google.translate:

Hello,

Unfortunately, my English is not so good, maybe there is someone who wants to translate. Anyway, I would be very grateful.

First of thanks for the many happy hours I have experienced with the Imperium Galactica second
From time to time I play it even today, although it has come on in years.
For a long time I know that it's probably not a sequel, which will give me for best PC game of all time.

Your first game, "Reunion" I bought his time. With IG1, IG2 and Haegemonia I actually thought that you would you focus on sci-fi games. Unfortunately never came out in what direction.
Haegemonia was the last game that I bought from you.

I wonder what happened to change your course so.
A space game which would be playing in my dream IG2 universe, with battles, diplomacy, trade and research.
Is there something more without a market, I wonder.
Instead, she brings a shooting game at a time that are located out in World War 2.
And now this is / e new fun games for kids.
The time has so changed. Does something like it again and puts it back in the closet. No one talks more about it after a while. There are so many such crap games. The market is full of them. Nintendo, PS2, WII.

About Imperium Galactica is still spoken today .......

I also registered today to show that there is a marked for IG3, I accentual check if there are any news for successor or remake of IG2, this is in my opinion the greatest game I ever have played. many strategy games are grate and specialized at one set of gametype, but IG2 combined so many strategy aspect in to one game in such a grate way, that no other game to day has even come close to match, from city management to destroying empires.

there are so many branches from IG2, like nexus, nexus 2(on and off project), and hegamonia. I have no idea ho have the rights to make a successor to IG2, but I'm happy to se DR is back and kicking. perhaps my fading hope of a return of my favorite game got a lite more strong.

I'm new to the community but I have a few things I'd like to say. I haven't played Imperium Galactica 2 for like 6 or 8 years now. I got my old computer running again(not the original one i play the game on). Its a 2006 windows xp i do believe. I'm working on getting the patches and installing the game to play it again because from what I remember of the game it was...AMAZING! I remember a fantastic campaign that was different every time! I could play as sweet alien species, build ships, customize them, go on to a planet surface...really to make this short because it would take me a long time to relive those memories when I was just a little kid playing the game (8-10) the game was fantastic and I would love to see Imperium Galactica 3. My mind is just racing right now thinking about it. A few of the community members say they would pay 50 euros for the game i don't know how much that is compared to U.S. currency but i would easily pay $60 for the game.

I would pay $60 just for Imperium Galactica 2 that is compatible with newer systems and slightly better graphics. It was the best RTS game I have ever played. Age of Empires 3 is pretty fun but with IG2 I have SPACESHIPS and ALIEN species, so cool! So anyways I say go for it. Remake the game.
